Alexa & Kirsten's updated big girl rooms!

Last weekend was a big moment at the Guthrie house...Alexa got a big girl bed!  Gordon converted Alexa's toddler bed into a full size bed which officially means we don't have babies anymore :(  We spent Saturday working on Alexa's room and then we worked on Kirsten's room on Sunday!  She got an upgrade by us re-arranging her furniture, hanging her name letters on the wall, and getting a rocking chair.

NYE PARTY!! 5th annual

We celebrated our 5th annual New Year's Eve family party!  This year we took the party to the lower level and Gordon (aka DJ Dub G) made sure we were dancing all night!  Or at least till the kids got tuckered-out ;)

Team Guthrie Christmas Party

Another fun slideshow!  This year we held my team's Christmas party at Rodney's new house, one of my team members.  We played a fun gift exchange game called December Dice and then enjoyed some Christmas Charades but switched it up a bit with one guesser and everyone else acting out.  We had a great night!!

Central Region Christmas Party

Gordon and I hosted his team and their spouses at our house for their Christmas party.  We had so many laughs and good times, as indicated by the pictures!

Christmas Program at DMCS

The girls had their annual Christmas program at Des Moines Christian School at the beginning of December.  This was Alexa's first time participating in the program and she did a great job, very animated!  Kirsten also did a wonderful job and knew all of the words to the songs by heart.

Introducing Penelope!

The Guthrie family has adopted an elf and her name is Penelope.  Every year she will make her appearance around December 1st, hanging out at the house during the daytime, then fly back to the North Pole at nighttime to tell Santa if the kids have been naughty or nice.  No one can touch Penelope or she will loose her magic!  Every morning the girls will wake up and run around the house trying to find Penelope because she is in a new place each day.  We've had to remind the girls that Penelope is listening or watching them to elicit good behavior. lol.  :)  Since Christmas is now over, Penelope has returned to her box...until December 2015!

Drake's 9th Birthday and Thanksgiving Fun!

Another year to be thankful for so much!  We are spending our Thanksgiving holiday at Gordon's parents house in Minocqua, WI and there is so much snow!!  It's fun to look back at previous year's posts and see the difference in weather, for example, in the Thanksgiving post from 2012 Drake was shooting his brand new Red Rider bb gun outside...without snow. :)
Drake turned 9 years old on November 25th, we celebrated with a family party at Nana and Papa's with a Double Chocolate cake, homemade by Nana!

Troop 436

Drake is a boy scout in Troop 436!  His first badge was earned for selling $376 worth of popcorn! In December he is going to ring the bell for donations and in February there is an overnight trip that he'll complete with Gordon.  Doesn't he make a good looking scout!   :)

My Puppy's name is Mommy

Recently, Alexa made this artwork at school.  Take note of her puppy's name...Mom.  :)
No, I'm not offended she named her puppy after me.  Quite the opposite actually, I'm touched that when offered to name her dog anything she wanted, she choose my name.  I love how the puppy's ears are glued down in a manner which makes it look sheepish...which reminds me of Alexa. :)

My mother-in-law & sister-in-law thought it was Alexa's attempt at telling us she wants a puppy.  Just think if we got a new puppy and actually named it Mom!  There's nothing like hearing your name over and over and over.  Or the funny comments that would come from it, "Mom went to the bathroom on the floor again"  ha!
